Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

For his 13th birthday Lucas wanted to do some fishing in Fort Lauderdale and having some nice parents, they gathered up the group and came fishing with us. I fully expected a group of 13 year olds on board… I think a few others wanted to go fishing on Lucas's birthday as well.
Most people that live locally want or hope to catch some Mahi mahi, or at least something good to take home and eat. Who can blame them? But fishing for Dolphin off shore lately has been poor so we chose to stay inside closer to shore and it paid off.
A few small Blackfin Tuna and Skipjack Tuna were our first bites as we trolled from 120 to 400'. We also caught some Bonito as we trolled.
But things were slow and we felt pretty good compared to what most others were catching. After a long lull of no bites, we found a few Kingfish, another fish that hadn't been biting well and as we worked our way back to the port, some birthday magic produced two nice gaffer size Dolphin. Lucas hadn't been feeling too well since things had been slow but seemed to feel better when these two fish showed up and were put in the box.
And he was all smiles for the picture at the end.
