Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Chicago Guests
Imagine flying into Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from Chicago and landing exactly one hour before your charter fishing trip. While arrival was supposed to be at 3 am, delays did just this to our guests the other day. Christie, Bob, Aaron and Kelly all show up in surprisingly good fashion at the boat the other morning for a 6 hour trip with us. With beer and sandwiches already in the cooler, we were off as soon as they set foot on the boat.
We talked of what they hoped to catch on the way out the inlet and did some trolling in hopes of catching a few Tuna that have been biting. But BIG fish was on the menu and it wasn't long before shark and live baits went out for the task.
We caught a Mahi while waiting and then, in the distance, a fin was seen coming our way. It was tracking right in on the scent trail from our shark bait and was soon hooked.
This is where fatigue set in… With Aaron up first, he did his best to fight this strong fish but soon found travel and lack of sleep played a part in the fight and relinquished the chair to Bob. The shark, a large Hammerhead, was boated with the hook removed, photographed and released back into the wild in good form, just the way we like it. We opted not to put another shark bait out.
As the current, which was especially strong today, moved us north along the coast, another Mahi was caught and then and explosion by one of the baits occurred. We had hooked a large Barracuda, this time Kelly was in the chair.
This fish jumper and ran and jumped again, Kelly did an excellent job of fighting this fish before finally landing it. Her pose at the dock was so perfect, a lady always, I couldn't resist choosing it for this report.

It was nice having folks from my home town, even if they were Sox fans. I would mention that a bit more time between arriving in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and charter fishing be allowed though… It will aid your stamina…
