Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Feb 14
Today we had some repeat customers on board for a little deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
We had Sam, Drew and Chaundra all from Michigan.
We went right to kite fishing with 3 live baits suspended from our kite along with one dead bonito for shark bait. We also set a bait on the bottom and last but not least another shark bait about 150 feet down.
Ok so the trap was set and now all we needed was for a big fish to come along and take a bite. And that was just what happen!! All of a sudden out bottom bait rod bent over and line started screaming off the reel and we were Hooked Up.
Sam jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It turned out to be a 35 min back and forth tug a war but Sam hung in there and up popped this big 7 foot hammer head shark. (Way to go Sam) we got a quick measurement of Sam's shark to have a replica trophy made of his fish and watched him swim away in good shape.

After some high fiving and some hand shaking we went right back to fishing. J.J. got all the baits set back out there and before we knew it BAM the deep rod once again bent over and once again we were Hooked Up.
This time Drew jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a 20 min fight up popped Drew's fish a 6-foot bull shark. (Way to go Drew)
What a great trip with you guys today thanks again. Guys the only down side to today's trip was we did not have our camera onboard so if you can e mail me the photos and we would love to post them.
Winter fishing is here and the Sharks, Sailfish, Black fin Tunas and the Smoker Kings are showing up so come on down to Sunny South Florida and lets get you Hooked Up.

Today we had a shared charter with Stan and Shelly from Virginia, Mike and Toney from New York and Robert and Stacy from Missouri.
Today we went for numbers and trolling the reef seemed to be our best bet. So we set out our 2-planner board running about 45 feet down along with our 3 baits skipping across the surface.
As thing turned out we had made the right choice by trolling the reef.
We ended up with a box full of king fish and one nice barracuda so everyone caught fish and all had a good time.

As we pulled back to the dock we got ready to take out Sheri and Ashlee from Manhattan.
We started out fishing for bait fish at one of the ships that was anchored up in about 75 feet of water but as it turned out the bait fish were biting so good and the girls were having a ball catching them so needless to say we caught a lot of little fish.
Ok finally got the girls to let us try fishing for something a bit bigger.
We went to a shipwreck that lay in 210 feet of water and sent down one of these live baits. I've got to say that just about the second this live bait hit the bottom the rod bent over and we were Hooked Up.
One of the girls jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a bunch of screaming yelling and carrying on up popped a 35 to 40 pound amber jack. I think that was the most fun anyone has had aboard the Hooked Up catching an amber jack. (LOL)
After that you know we had to try that again sure enough the second the bait hit the bottom BAM we were Hooked Up again and yes once again big Amber Jack.
Girl's thanks so much for a great fun fishing trip and we can't wait to have you aboard again.
Once again we would like to thank all of our anglers today and if any of you guys have any photos you would like to have posted please e mail them to me and I will post them.

Today's fishing trip actually started yesterday when one of our repeat customers /friends Eric and his son Ryan chartered us for 2 days of deep sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Ft Lauderdale.

Today they brought along Eric's brother John who was down visiting from New York and one of his good friends that he has not seen for over 17 years Steve the MOUTH from Winchester Virginia.

One our first day of fishing on the 18th we tried a little bit of everything. We trolled the reef we trolled off shore we set out our kites with live and dead baits suspended from them and we also tried some deep drops on the deep wrecks.

(FISHING WAS JUST SLOW ALL AROUND).
We did manage to catch an 8 pound black fin tuna and a few bonitos along with one king fish but all in all it was a slow day.

The following day needless to say the pressure was on. I started out the day by bring a nice sushi platter I had put together from the tuna we had caught the day before.
We had decided to troll our way down to the south off the coast of Miami set our kites out and drift our way back.

The plan was to catch Ryan his first sailfish but as luck would have it on our way down we kept getting bites and it took a lot longer to get there but this was not a bad thing because we ended up catching a box full of dolphin fish a hand full of bonitoes a king fish and another black fin tuna. Not so bad and now some of the pressure was off but still no sailfish.

We did finally make our way down and set out our kites but I am sorry to say that we only had one shot at a sail fish and while he was chasseing the live bait around he got all tangled in the leader jumped shot us the fin and swam off.

Eric and the rest of the gang thanks soooo much we had a ball fishing with you guys and Steve well lets just say that we love you Steve but not until 9:30 am (LOL)
Ryan I still owe you that sailfish but not to worry he's coming.

Today we had Mathew and John from Montréal Canada and Dave from Fort Lauderdale aboard for a few hours of Deep Sea Fishing with us off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We went right to kite fishing with 3 live baits suspended from our kites along with 2 other shark baits set @ 150 feet down and 350 down.
Ok the trap was set and the wait was on but not for long.

First we had a sailfish pile all over our right long kite bait and just like that we were Hooked Up.
Dave jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 20 min Dave got his sail next to the boat we got a couple of photos of him swimming next to the boat Captain J.J. leaned over and cut the line and he swam away in great shape to fight again another day.

After some hand shaking and some high fiving J.J. got the baits right back out there and once again the trap was set and before we knew it our deep rod with the shark bait on the other end bent over and once again we were Hooked Up.

This time John jumped in the chair and the fight was on.
After a good 25 min fight up popped this 6-foot Silky Shark. Once again a couple quick photos and we watched him swim away in great shape.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF OUR ANGLERS TODAY

Today we started out with Mary, Alan and Jeff from Nebraska.
We started out trolling our way to the south with 2-planner boards running about 45 feet deep along with 3 baits skipping across the surface.
We managed to catch 8 black fin tunas, 2 dolphin fish and a couple bonitos.

Once we worked our way down off the coast of Hallandale Florida we found our selves over a big shipwreck and that's where we hit the big fish.

J.J. hooked a small bonito with some trouble hooks in it and sent him down on a down rigger about 60 feet down as Captain Greg slow trolled him around the wreck.

From there it only took a couple min till BAM the bait snapped out of the down rigger the spinning rod bent over and line started screaming off the reel.
Our angler jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a good 15 min back and forth tug a war up popped this monster barracuda.
Holly cow that was just to easy so we tried it again and once again once the bait was sent down BAM again we were Hooked Up with this fish being even bigger than the first.
Ok it worked twice so what the heck we tried it again and once again BAM again and this one even bigger than the last 2.
We ended up with a 46-inch a 48-inch and last but not least a 53-inch barracuda.

Now bear in mind all these fish were on spinner rods on 20-pound test.
Mary, Jeff and Alan thanks so much it was a blast and we are looking forward to fishing with you guys again tomorrow with much calmer waters.

As we pulled back to the dock we had Joe and Peggy and their kids Billy 18 years old and Patrick 17 all from Long Island New York.

We decided to try doing the same as we had in our morning trip so we trolled our way back to the same wreck catching a couple more dolphin fish on our way down along with a nice skipjack tuna.

Ok here we were once again at the shipwreck and once again J.J. sent down a small bonito on the downrigger and once again BAM we got Hooked Up.
Billy jumped @ the shot of trying to catch one of these sea monsters on light tackle. After a good 10 min fight up popped this 45-inch barracuda and after some celebrating out went another bait on the downrigger and once again BAM we got Hooked Up again. Patrick got the rod and once again another 45 incher popped up.

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
