Giant Hammerheads and Sailfish Continue to Haunt South Florida

Capt. Mike Johnson
June 26, 2008
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Here in Fort Lauderdale we are having an extended shark and sailfish season, with no complaints from the LOCAL KNOWLEDGE 954 522 4773. Giant hammerhead sharks are continuing their migration south eating our baits along the way. They find a kingfish fished on #19 wire irresistable. The surface bite is spectacular and if the bite is on the deep rod it is down right scary. Line rips from penn 80 reels at an alarming rate and the battle begins. Fish average around 200# but some monsters up to 400 lbs are also caught. Sailfish are also letting their presence known. Though the fish are still found on the reef many are caught deeper as the ride the gulfstream back north. SOme fall victem on the troll while most are caught on live bait.
