Great bottom fishing

Capt. Vinnie Sacks

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lately the fishing on the YB Normal out of fort Lauderdale has been pretty good with calm weather and seas, we recently took two groups out lately and have been catching some pretty great fish. In Fort Lauderdale we are only 15 min from excellent fishing out of port everglades Florida. trolling has been productive with planners fishing for kingfish tuna and a few wahoo, We recently took out a customer by the name of Rich, and his son who lives in Cooper City Florida which is only a 20 min drive to Fort Lauderdale. We took them out on a shared charter in the afternoon and started fishing with planners down trolling the edge of the reef which is only 1 mile off Fort Lauderdale beach, we had caught some nice size king mackerel around Hollywood beach on switches and strip baits, we continued to troll and moved further offshore where we managed a triple header bite and we caught 3 smaller blackfin tuna which make great sushi or tuna salad for those that like here fish cooked. After that we headed to the deep where we have been doing some bottom fishing and catching some great eating fish called golden tilefish, these fish live in deep water and are excellent on the table they are often called poor mans lobster, we use electric reels for this type of fishing due to the depth of water and the currents, we baited up and sent our rig down to the bottom as I explained how to use the reel, soon after hitting bottom we got a bite and quickly brought up a very nice sized golden tilefish, we made a few more drops catching a total of 3 tilefish and then called it a day, everyone with great smiles as we headed to the dock near Fort Lauderdale beach. If your ever in Fort Lauderdale be sure to check out the YB Normal for any Sportfishing needs you may have.
