Great Eating Fish

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
March 19, 2019
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Kurt who just moved to Fort Lauderdale from Northern California decided to charter the YB Normal for a 4 hour afternoon Deep Sea private fishing charter to check out the difference from fishing in the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. As we left the dock in Fort Lauderdale beach Kurt requested that we try to target some good eating fish that he could cook in his brand new home he just purchased. We headed out through Port Everglades which is only 10 minutes from our dock at 1005 Sea Breeze Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale beach. The ocean was calm for this time of year and we began to troll to the south there had been some blackfin tuna around in the morning so we thought that would make some great Sushi. We put out 2 planner rods and 3 top lines and worked between 200 and 400 ft. of water. About 15 minutes later the short planner rod got hit hard the fish made a nice hard first run just like a Wahoo would, but then it began to dig deep maybe this was a nice blackfin Tuna we got it to the boat 10 minutes later and it turned out to be a 15 pound Atlantic Bonita a nice fight but no food value. We continued to keep trolling at this point the high line got hit another good fight but another Bonita. We decided to troll toward a good spot that we have for snapper and grouper on the way we got another bite but it cut the strip probably a King Mackerel to bad Kurt would have had a nice fish to eat. When we got to the spot for snapper and grouper the fish finder was not marking any fish so we decide to start heading offshore to do some deep dropping for some Black Belly rose fish in about 800 feet of water. These fish are fantastic eating so we pulled out the electric rod and made a drop. We could not eat the Bonita but it make for great bait. On the 1st drop we brought up 4 nice fish we showed Kurt how to do it him self and he made 2 more drops that got 3 fish each now he had some great fish to eat. We headed back north off of Fort Lauderdale beach to try one more thing we have a good spot in 780 ft. that holds some nice Golden Tilefish. The Golden Tilefish are also fantastic to eat. Kurt made the drop and after getting to the bottom 5 minutes later he got a few bumps hit the lever on the real the rod bent over hard and he knew this was a real nice fish 15 minutes later he landed a 17 pound Golden Tile. It was time to head back so Kurt went inside the air conditioned salon and feel a sleep on the couch. We got him up when we got to the dock and he had some great table fair to take home to break in his new kitchen. When in Fort Lauderdale check the YB Normal out for a Private Deep Sea Fishing Charter call me (Capt. Vinnie 954-559-4700) and I will set you up with a great day fishing.
