Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past couple weeks the fishing has been great. We are in our normal pattern and any day can be the best. The tunas have showed up in full force, with most trip resulting in 1-3 fish and up to 6. The good news is that mixed in with the normal 20-30lbs fish we have been catching a good amount in the upper 30's close to 40 and the big fish fight harder with the added weight. Fort Lauderdale south to Miami has had the best tuna bite though the bigger fish seem to be conentrated to the north around Boca Raton. Live chumming has been bringing a good amount of tunas but a chunky gog on the kite especially early or late in the day have been getting good bites. Big kingfish have been all over the reef and we have been targeting them from Fort Lauderdale to north of Jupiter. A good amount of fish in the 30+ lb. range have been up and down the reef. Sailfish are still around and in good numbers we have been getting shots at 1-unlimited bites if the conditions are right. Sailfish have been coming on the kite and slow troll. This past sunday we were fishing a tournament for kingfish off jupiter and could have caught over 20 fish if that was our target, instead we had to pull the baits out of their mouths. Dolphin remain hit or miss with the west wind, though the fish remain especially offshore under frigates and flotsam. A few wahoo have been around though have been hit or miss like the dolphin.
Though not great table fare the bonitas (false ablacore's) are here in full force. They can provide great action in the heat of the day and our charters have had great action on tackle that is more suited for bass fishing than fishing offshore. Some of the wrecks still contain some bruiser AJs in the 50-100lbs range, though the bite has slowed substantially since my last report.
After a while the swordfishing seems to be improving. We have had some pretty slow fishing over the past couple months but it seems like it is improving with each trip we take. Nighttime fish have been in the 40-100lbs range. The daytime fishing seems to be improving also with the fish being bigger as is typical with dropping in the day.
Fort Lauderdale Fishing Forecast:

We should start seeing more and more blackfin tunas in the coming weeks and possibly some yellowfins offshore though seem to be running late this year. Kingfishing should remain good and sailfish can make a showing at any time. Dolphin will be around and more prevalent if we have an east wind and more and snappers should be biting as they spawn on the full moons.
