Great fishing in South Florida Aboard Hooked Up

Capt. Taco Perez
December 28, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dec 23rd

Today we had Mom and dad Steve and Fiona and their 3 children Lawrence, Caroline and the little terror Will all from Westchester New York out for a few hours of deep sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

We swung by the live bait boat and picked up some live baits and headed right out to 110 feet of water and started out trolling.

We set out both planners with bonito's strips running behind them along with three baits skipping across the surface.

We worked our way to the north off the coast of Pompano where we planned to set out our kite baits in hope of catching a sailfish or two.

As luck would have it we did catch a couple of kings on our way up but once We brought in the trolling gear and set out our kites that was the last bite we had in over a couple of hours.
While conditions looked good for sail fishing we never had a bite with the kites and live baits.

Ok back to plan A and this time we made the right choice because the kings started biting and every one ended up catching fish.
We even dragged mom away from her book and got her to reel one in.

We ended up with a good hand full of king fish and one nice cero mackerel.

Steve and Fiona and the rest of the Fam you guys are first class and we hope to fish with you guys again soon.

Today we had Jeff from Toronto Canada out fishing all by himself looking to get a sailfish off his bucket list.

Today was not the first time that Jeff has fished with us aboard the Hooked Up but today was going to be the first time Jeff has ever caught a sail- fish if I had anything to do with it.

We picked up some live baits and started running up the north closer to Pompano. We knew the sailfish would be heading south and we were hopping to get north of the rest of the fleet and get first shot at the fish.

Once we got to where we decided to fish out went both kites with 2 live baits suspended from each one.

Ok the trap was set and everything looked great. We had a good north current and while the water was not a crisp blue it was a clean green looking in color so good enough.

As we were waiting to check sailfish off of Jeff's bucket list we did manage to catch 5 nice king-fish but no sail fish.

It seemed like forever when all of a sudden Captain Greg yelled up @ me a said he thought something was trying to eat his right long kite bait. It was all most imposable to see the bait due to the glare from the sun.
Than all of a sudden out came this sailfish dancing all over the surface of the waves. WE WERE HOOKD UP

Jeff got in the chair and the fight was on. This fish fought all the way to the boat coming out of the water giving us a great show.

Once Jeff got his sailfish next to the boat we got a few got pictures of him cut the line and watched him swim away in great shape.
Jeff thanks again it was blast watching you catch your first sailfish.

As we got back to the dock we were getting ready to clean the boat and call it a day a bit earlier today since it was Christmas eve BUT than we got a last min call about a group that was looking to get out for a few hours so their would be no early day today.

We had Brain and Jill along with their daughter Sue who brought along her two kids James and Kalie all from London England.

As it turned out they were all here in South Florida for a few mouths due to a big tennis tournament that Kalie was going to be in.

While I never did get their last names Kalie is the # 1 tennis player in Great Britain at the age of 14 and under and by the looks of her there's a good chance the rest of the world will know who she is by the time she is 18.

We went right to kite fishing with no bites at all for well over an hour.
While a few of the boats were seeing a sail here and a sail there we just never got a shot and we just could not stand waiting any longer so it was time for plan B.

We brought in all the kites and set out 2 planners running deep along with 3 more baits skipping across the surface.

At last we found fish!! We ended up catching a couple kingfish and a few big bomber bonitos.
Guy's thanks again for your patience and Kalie best of luck with you modeling I mean tennis career.

Dec 25 Christmas Day

Today we had our old customers/friends from Venezuela out for a few hours of deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Ft Lauderdale.

We had Arnaldo , Alberto, Manuel, Silomon, Juancho and Roberto.

Today eating fish was the target and seeing we had a west wind the chances of finding a weed line with some dolphin fish on it was slim to none.

So we decided to troll the reef looking for some kingfish.

We ended up with a few nice kings along with a big barracuda and a special surprise a black fin tuna.
Guys thanks again and we'll see you guys again soon.

Here we are the day after Christmas and getting out of bed is not easy with our full bellies.
So I didn't; Captain Greg and Captain J.J. are running the shows today because A it is cold as heck and B I'm the boss so I am just sleeping in today. (LOL)

Ok now that we've got that out of the way lets get back to the fishing trip.

Today we had Morris and Phil from Toronto Canada and Stuart and John from England aboard for some deep-sea fishing.

As it turned out I should have worked because they had a great day of fishing.
They went trolling today catching a box full of king fish, a big black tip shark yes on the troll and 5 nice dolphin fish.

Ok all kidding aside I took my camera home for the holiday and we got no photos of today.

To my crew and to all of our anglers today thanks for making the Hooked Up look great.

Dec 28

Today we had Dr Atif Husseim chartered the boat for his son and a couple of his friends.
As luck would have it a few of the guys that the good doctor was taking out bailed out on him in the last min and he was left with no one to fish with.

I was talking to him on the phone and we decided what the heck he was already paying for the boat and the weather is a cool 55 degrees without a cloud in the sky and chances were fishing was going to be real good.

So off we went just Captain Greg, J.J. and the doctor.

Now truth being told I am sitting in my office when I get this e mail from the Doctor him self while they are still out there fishing with a attachment on his e mail and he had just caught his second sail fish of the day and he wanted me to post it on my blogs NOW so the guys that bailed on him could see what they missed out on (LOL) (LOL) (LOL)

That's all for now but he still has another hour to fish so we might be updating this fishing report.

O wait just one min JUST In he's now caught 3 sails by himself!!!

More Fishing Reports:

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
