Great fishing this week

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week on the YB Normal out of fort Lauderdale, we had some excellent trips day and night, we also had some great clients as well, one trip that comes to mind is a morning trip that we recently had, from a great local family from the parkland florida area. They booked a 6 hour private morning trip aboard the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale Florida, we left the dock early in hopes of some great fishing we headed out port everglades inlet at 7am sharp and we stared off trolling in 200 feet of water with a spread of 5 lines 2 planner downs with seawitches and bonito strips, and our surface baits consisted of some small feathers because there has been a good amount of blackfin tunas, the weather was overcast which usually makes for great fishing. Right away we started off catching some tunas on our small feathers, and one mahi or dolphin, blackfin tuna is a great eating fishing and also sushi grade tuna as well it is one of my favorite fish to eat as sushi or cooked, we would continue to have a great blackfin tuna bite in around 200-400 feet of water trolling, we then would head offshore in search of some mahi and on the way offshore we would get a bite in the surface and catch a skipjack tuna around 10lbs or so, these fish are hard fighters for there size and taste great as well the meat is a little darker in color then blackfin tunas but still great, skipjack tuna is used in caned tuna mostly, we would continue to head offshore where I would find a current break in around 700 feet of water which in fort Lauderdale is only 3 miles from shore, we would have a big planner bite on our short planner and after about a 10min battle we boated a nice size mahi around 20lbs with great colors, everyone was excited about the fish as well as the great dinner they would have that night, after this it would be time to head back to the dock for some great photos and plenty of filleting, a killer trip for our local customers.
On another note the night fishing has been very good with some great customers as well the yellowtail snapper bite has been very steady with small cut baits like ballyhoo and bonito, we also have been catching lot of nice size mangrove snapper between 2-5lbs which is somewhat a rare catch for the winter time we tend to see more of them in the summer time, there has also been some bluefish around which is a great fighting fish but not so good on the table, we have a great picture this week of one of our regular customers todd, he fishes with us regularly when he isn't working and he caught a very nice red grouper while bottom fishing, a beautiful fish and great eating as well.

This week we sure had some great trips and the fishing should only continue to get better as we get more into winter months, still plenty of availability coming up and fishing makes great Christmas gifts so if your ever in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking for a deep sea fishing charter check out the YB Normal they fish day and night so there is no excuse to not go!! more later….
