Great Fort Lauderdale Fishing

Capt. David Ide

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

January 20, 2013

The wintertime fishing in Fort Lauderdale can be tricky, with frequent cold fronts making for rough seas that are tough to fish in. But the winter weather also brings wahoo, one of the fastest and most powerful gamefish that comes through these waters. This afternoon, the Lady Pamela II ventured about 9 miles offshore to fish for wahoo. A cold front had just passed through and the weather was perfect for wahoo. Captain Darin put out the baits along a nice Sargassum weedline that had set up along the Gulfstream current edge.

With baits in the water, our anglers were ready to catch a few fish. They were however, somewhat shocked and elated at the outcome. We hooked into a nice wahoo, maybe 20 lbs, and the crew was all pumped up after a big first run by this fish, then working it into the boat. Then we hooked up another one. Then another one. Then another one. Then one after that! By the end of the 4 hour charter our anglers had boated a whopping 10 wahoo! They also bagged a single mahi-mahi that apparently was able to beat the wahoo to one of the baits. It was a busy afternoon for the captain and crew, our anglers were beat, but man o' man this kind of fishing is simply the best! Wahoooo!!!
