Great fun Fishing Aboard hooked Up Ft Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today was a day for the kids but I think the parents and grandparents had just as good a time watching the kids catching fish.
We started out our morning trip fishing with Marty and his wife Arlene and their grand kids Stone 11 and his sister Rachel 15 from Melbourne Florida.
We started out trolling south on the reef with two lines running about 45 feet deep on planner boards and three baits skipping across the surface. While our baits skipping across the surface were not producing any fish our planners were tearing them up. We were catching king fish and bonitos all the way down to this ship wreck we were heading for.
Once we got down to this ship wreck that laid on the bottom in about 121 feet of water off the coat of Holly Wood Florida J.J. brought in all the trolling gear and started setting out a couple of shark baits and was trying to set out a couple of live baits also BUT he never had time for that because as soon as he got the first shark bait set BAM the rod bent over line started screaming off the reel and we were Hooked Up. 11 year old Stone jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a back and forth tug a war for a good 30 min till finally Stone kicked this 100 to 130 pound sharks butt. Way to go Stone.
After a couple photos we watched Stone's shark swim away in great shape to fight again another day.

Not a bad 4 hours of fishing we ended up with a box full of king fish and bonitos and one nice catch and release of a bull shark.
As we got back to the dock we had a whole family waiting and eager to give their luck a shot at a bit of deep sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.

We had Julian and his wife Alicia their two children Julian JR 14 and his little brother Daniel 8 and of course grand dad Santiago all from Cuba now all living in Miami Florida.
We figured that since trolling the reef had paid off for us earlier today we'd give it another shot and sure enough the reef trolling paid off for us. Once again we were catching king fish and bonitos on our planner boards.
Once we got to another ship wreck J.J. brought in all the trolling gear and dropped a live bait down to the bottom. The second the bait hit the bottom the rod bent over line started screaming off the reel Captain Greg went ahead with the boat to assure the fish did not get us wrapped up in the wreck and we were Hooked Up.
Little Daniel jumped in his dads lap and the fight was on.

This little guy has a lot of heart and even though he was sitting in his dads lap just to make sure the rod did not go overboard he was doing all the fighting. After a good 15 min of fighting this fish up popped this big greater amber jack. Way to go Daniel!!
At this point we were on our way back in after a good day of fishing but there was one little thing left to do. We had not caught Julian JR a BIG fish so we thought we would give it one last ditch effort.
We got a couple of live baits and hooked them with light wire leaders and slow trolled them down a ledge that goes from 14 feet straight down to 44 feet in hopes of finding a barracuda for Julian.

All of a sudden we seen our live bait trying to jump out of the water and at that point the water just exploded line was peeling off the little spinner reel we were using and Julian was HOOKED UP in a BIG way. Once the fish settle down a bit Julian would gain a little line then as if the fish got a new burst of energy he would peel line of in just seconds and Julian would have to start over. This went on for a good 15 to 20 min till finally Julian got this big barracuda close enough for J.J. to gaff him. Nice going Julian!!
To all the parents, Grandparents and especially the kids thanks for a great fun day fishing aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we got chartered from the girls that work at Publix where I shop and I've got to say we well most of us had a ball while a couple of the girls lost a little weight (LOL)
Ok the goal today was first to catch as many fish as possible and second try to catch some good eating fish.
First let me introduce the Gang from Publix where shopping is a pleasure.
First we have the one and only Cathy who put this whole fishing trip together and I thank her sooo much for that along with Elizabeth, Kristin, Eliana, Patty and Long Horn Donna (LOL).
Now I've got to start out by saying that I was joking with Donna about her long horn shirt. I had told her that people that come aboard wearing a long horn shirt never seem to catch any fish. I'll get back to this matter in a bit. Anyway off we went trolling the reef with two lines running about 45 feet down on planner board and three baits skipping across the surface. And once again the deep lines were catching king fish one after another.
When we catch these fish on planners we reel the fish in till the planner gets to the tip of the rod and then we have to hand line in the 60 foot leader. I bring this because I did notice Donna wiring in a fish or two and during all the fish coming into the boat I never noticed that Donna never did get a chance to reel in a fish. (My Bad) sorry about that Donna but the good news is everyone caught fish and the next dolphin fish that is left behind on the boat goes to you Donna.
We ended up catching a box full of king fish I think 11 of them then we went off shore looking for some better eating like dolphin fish but sorry to say we never did find any dolphin fish but we did catch a big barracuda.
Girls thanks again for a fun morning of fishing and to the couple of girls that well let's just say got sick of fishing hope you had a good time all the same.

More Fishing Reports:

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
