Great Mahi Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report I would say this is the report that everyone has been waiting for. Lets gets right into it, offshore the fishing has been excellent early morning and late afternoons has been the best, there has been a good amount of mahi mahi on any type of floating debris like bamboo logs, wood pallets, or cargo nets, locating birds has been also a great way to find some mahi right now and the last thing to look for is rips or current edges. The size of the mahi right now are great as well, I would say the average is around 10lbs with some 25lb fish in the mix, when getting into a school of mahi right now live bait is going to be key in order to keep there attention when they loose interest, one thing to remember when mahi fishing is that mahi are very aggressive and when your in a school it can be fast and furious and in order for a school to stay with you it is important to keep a hooked fish in the water. I still strongly recommend if your looking to catch some mahi is an 8 hour trip, the fish have been further offshore and some days are better then others the extra time could be the difference in catching a few or really loading the cooler full of fish. Also offshore on floating debris there has been some wahoo and large rainbow runners, when approaching some floating debris the best way to target the wahoo that might be underneath it is to troll a spoon fished on a planner in order to take it down under the surface, it only takes a few passes by the floater to find out if there is a wahoo underneath it usually happens instantly. Moving inshore on the reef the fishing has been subpar mostly slow, early mornings there has been some kingfish just on the edge of the reef and a few bonitos, trolling has been the best technique. Shipwrecks and ledges have been holding some larger barracuda right now as well. The water has been green in color and not much current on the inshore side of things which is why I believe the fishing has been on the slower side.
