Great Sailfish Action in Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
April 9, 2019
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today aboard the YB Normal Out of Fort Lauderdale Florida we had a great group of customers from Arizona, one of the clients name was Betty who has fished with us once before and she decided to bring her friends down with her for a great deep sea fishing charter, we left 8am sharp in hopes of catching some eatting fish and possibly a trophy fish the weather was decent with winds out of the south east at 15mph, we made our way out to the whistle bouy which is 1.5 mies from the beautiful Fort Lauderdale beach coast, we started out trolling with 2 planners down and some surface baits consisting of fresh bonito strips and fresh ballyhoo, we had our first bite right away which came on the planner and it was a nice king mackeral we kept trolling for a while and managed some more nice king mackerel and some bonito, while getting a short bite on the planner and reeling it in to check the bait, I could see a dark figure chasing up the bait which at that point when I could make out what it was it looked to be a very nice sailfish I had told my mate to get one of the rods with a fresh ballyhoo on it and put it right in front of the sailfish face and he should bite which he did and we were able to hook the fish and have a fight of a lifetime, after around 20 min battle with great jumps and a show we landed the sailfish and took some great photos, normally we do not keep sailfish but in this instance the fish was exhausted and was not going to be able to swim away so we decided to keep him, meanwhile everyone was high fives and happy faces, we put out our trolling spread for the remainder of trip and we had caught a very nice sized blackfin tuna which is a great sushi fish. time was getting short and we headed back to the dock took all the fish out of the cooler and hung them up for great pictures, another great deep sea adventure in the books aboard the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale Florida…
