Great Spring time fishing Ft Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

May 10
Today we started out fishing with Michael, Pete, Greg, Glenn and Tommy all from Houston Texas.
Truth being told here fishing was slow and while we did mange to catch a bonito trolling that was all we managed to get while trolling.
Ok so it was time for plane B so in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live baits suspended from the kites.
Kite fishing was also slow but we did mange to catch a monster and I do mean a monster sickle fin hammerhead shark.
If you're not going to catch a lot might as well catch a big one.

Now that's a big shark!!!
As we pulled back to the dock we had Emma, Dayan, and Ben from Canada along with Flo from Austria and André from Germany eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing.
Once again we started out trolling the reef BUT once again trolling was dead slow so once again back to kite fishing.
After quite a bit of waiting finally a sailfish popped up on our right long kite bait and BAM we were Hooked Up.
After a good 15 min battle we finally got this nice sailfish to the side of the boat.

We got a few pictures and watched him swim away in great shape.
Once again if you're not going to catch a lot than catch a nice one.
Thanks to all of our anglers for hanging in there today with fishing being so slow.

Today we started out fishing with Hamid and Christina from Virginia.
We trolled the reef with 2-planner board and 3 surface baits and trolling was red hot with the bonitos biting like mad dogs.
We ended up with at least 10 bonitos.
As we pulled back to the dock we had Max, Roed (that's how they spelled it) and Laura from Washington ready to try their luck at a bit of deep-sea fishing off Ft Lauderdale.
Once again we went to trolling and YES once again trolling was RED HOT with everyone catching 2 bonitos, 2 black fin tunas and 1 nice Wahoo.

Today was a red-hot morning of deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up with Sally, Jeff and Jerry all from South Florida.
We went right to kite fishing with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with a couple shark baits set down deep.
WOW we ended up catching and releasing 2 nice hammerhead sharks and 1 Sand Bar shark.
It kind of felt like shark week all balled up into one morning of fishing.
Sally, Jeff and Jerry it was a ball and hope you guys get a good nights sleep after all that reeling. (LOL)

This Moring we started out fishing with Jake from Ft Lauderdale, Bryan from New Orleans, Daniel from Venezuela and Nicole from Westin Florida.
We went right to trolling the reef and caught a couple kingfish and a hand full of bonitos.
This afternoon we had Andrew from Virginia and peter from Washington D.C. out for a few hours of deep sea fishing off the coast of fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
We started out trolling the reef and catching a few bonitos.
Ok skunk out of the box and now it was time to try for the big one.
We set out a couple of live bits along with a couple shark baits down deep.
Today it was the deep bait that paid off as the line started peeling off the reel as if there was a fright train on the other end. Andrew jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a good 25 min back and forth tug a war till finally Andrew got one of the biggest sand bar sharks to the side of the boat.
Your average sand bar shark is between 4 to 6 feet long this monster tipped the measuring tape at 10 feet long. WOW this was for sure the biggest we've ever caught.

Today we started out fishing with David and his friends from parts unknown.
While we might not have gotten everyone's names and where they were from we DID have a banner morning of deep-sea fishing aboard the hooked up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We caught a big sailfish, 1 Mahi Mahi, 2 bonitos and one nice hammerhead shark. WOW now that's a good morning of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
As we got back to the dock we had another lucky group eager to give their luck a shot again aboard the hooked up.
We had Andrew from Virginia and Peter from Washington D.C. out for the second day in a row.
While yesterday was a red-hot day with Andrew catching a monster sand bar shark today was even better with Andrew catching a big hammerhead shark and Peter catching a big sailfish.

Today the Hooked Up had our annual South West Airlines tournament to raise Money for the Ronal McDonald house. This year we had a total of 21 boats fishing all day with a great turn out and fishing was good to boot.
It turned out to be real good for both the Hooked Up and the Hooked Up 2.
Aboard the Hooked up we had the sponsors from the great state of Texas.
We had J.R. and Walt from Dallas along with John from Miami Florida, Ed from Plato Texas, Dean also out of Dallas and Tim from Fort Worth Texas.

While I must admit my crew did not keep perfect fishing report details I do know that they did catch 2 big sailfish a couple bonitos and I believe a couple of Mahi Mahi for the fish fry.
Once again we would like to thank all the sponsors that help put this together and I really want to congratulate the anglers aboard the Hooked Up and the Hooked up 2 for having the best catch out of all the boats.
Makes me look good but don't tell anyone I was not on ether boat that day. (LOL)

Today we started our day out fishing with John and Taylor from Kansas City.
We started out trolling the reef and catching a couple kingfish along with a bunch of bonitos.
Than we did some deep drops a caught a amber jack along with a snowy grouper.

As we got back to the dock we loaded up Cynthia and her husband (Did not get name) from West By God Virginia along with Tim from Texas.
This afternoon fishing got real slow for us. We started out trolling the reef but the reef was just shut down and it seemed nothing was biting.
So we switched to fishing the bottom and while it started out slow with no bites finally BAM we got a good bite and the fight was on.
Finally we put a big amber jack in the box.
Thanks again to our anglers today for A fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up and B for hanging in there while fishing was slow.
We will make it up to you guys next time!!

Today was another BANNER day of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked up.
We started out the day fishing with Brain from Fort Lauderdale and Dave from Jasonville Florida.
We went right to trolling and trolling was VERY GOOD for us today. We ended up landing 1 Wahoo, 3 kingfish, 1 black fin tuna and 9 bonitos.
WOW now that's another satisfied costumer!!
Once we got back to the dock we loaded up our afternoon customers Stacy and Paul from Chicago.
This afternoon we went right to kite fishing with live baits suspended from the kites.
Today weather we were trolling or kite fishing it seemed we could do no wrong. We ended up with a BIG sailfish and a HUAGE SMOKER KINGFISH.

Today we fished with Forrest, Paul, Mary, Tracy and Bob from Chicago.
(If I got the names wrong sorry could not make out print)
We started out trolling and trolling was good. We ended up with 1 kingfish, 1 Mahi Mahi and 8 bonitos.
Ok skunk was out of the box and now it was time to go for the big one.
In came the trolling gear and out went the live baits and the shark baits set down deep.
All of a sudden BAM one of the shark rods bent over Forrest jumped in the chair and the fight was on.
This turned out to be a good 25 min back and forth tug a war. Finally Forrest got this 9-foot hammerhead shark next to the boat.
Wow now that's a nice fish!! Nice going Forrest.

More Fishing Reports:

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
