A Great Way To Start October Fishing

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
October 4, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, this week I have a great report for you guys so lets get started. So this week we have a little introduction to fall fishing which is a great time to do some deep sea fishing in the Fort Lauderdale area. Starting out offshore this week the mahi are in full force right now and they are all nice sized, there have been large schools of mahi if you can locate some birds primarily the frigate bird or albatross, these birds are birds of prey and if you can locate one there is surely fish nearby, also floating debris is always a great find right now too and that can lead you to mahi and possibly a wahoo or two. It is very important to have live bait if your going mahi fishing because if you happen to find yourself in a school the live bait will come in handy if your looking to really fill the cooler. Other then mahi offshore there has been some blackfin tuna on birds as well, the easiest way to tell if the birds you find are on tuna or mahi is the tuna birds are going to be moving very quickly and you most likely will see fish busting the surface of the water. I still recommend right now the all day 8 hour trip if looking for mahi because some days it takes some time to find the fish or find something to fish to, that extra time can be a difference maker. Moving to inshore there has been a very good kingfish bite right now trolling in the early mornings with planers and seawitches, anywhere from 80 feet on out to 150 feet is a good area to try if your looking to catch kingfish, also while trolling baits underneath the surface we also put out some surface baits and they have been producing some smaller bonitos as well as the occasional sailfish. Sailfish season is upon us and it should be picking up soon here fishing with live bait and kites. Moving just off the edge of the reef its getting to the time for wahoo, trolling a bit quicker with bigger baits is a good way to target wahoo right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, fishing around the full moon is going to be the most productive but I can say from experience that if there is a strong current and the water is blue its always worth a try to fish for wahoo in the early mornings. Last but not least there has been some vermillion snapper biting on deep water rock piles and wrecks, if your looking to take fish home these guys are excellent eating, small pieces of cut bonito has been working best and any type of structure over 300 feet has been productive for the snappers. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches caught during our deep sea fishing charters, and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. October is a great month to fish in Fort Lauderdale and we just so happen to have availability so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water.
