Fort Lauderdale Fishing is Hot in June with Capt. Mike 954.522.4773
The weather is getting hot quick here in Ft Lauderdale and so is the fishing. June is a transition month that says hello to calm seas and great fishing. The first fish on everyone's mind is the Dolphin (mahi mahi). Mahi travel in large schools in the summer time, although normally found a little farther offshore than in spring. Trolling between 6-8 knots is a great way to cover more ground to find the debris, weedlines and birds that these fish are found under. Once found everyone knows the drill, leave one in the water to hold the school around the boat, while everyone catches the tasty fish on light spinning tackle. Also in abundance this month are kingfish, bonito, the occassional sailfish, plenty of sharks and for those looking for the ultimate sport fishing experience SWORD FISH!!! Sword fish are caught here year round but June with its calm seas allows for enjoyable fishing and ease to the sword grounds. Night time fishing for swords brings relief from the heat but daytime fishing for them brings bigger fish on average.
