HOT Snapper Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
June 29, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, man what a great week of fishing in Fort Lauderdale, probably if I was to say the absolute best mutton snapper bite I have ever seen in my life, and lots of other species biting right now... So for this week we will start with whats hot and thats snapper snapper snapper, right now the mutton snapper spawn is going on and the fish are hungry, mutton snapper is one of the larger of the snapper species, similar to red snapper which is caught in the gulf side mutton snapper would be there Atlantic cousin. Mutton snapper fight hard and are fantastic to eat on the dinner table. Somewhat wary and are not easy to fool but when hungry they will eat just about anything. Just on the edge of the reef there has been good concentrations of mutton snappers either anchoring up or just drifting areas has been a great choice, fresh dead bait has been working very well, we use bonito exclusively because that is usually what we have daily. A standard bottom rig with a long leader is a must because mutton snappers are very wary and the further away from the sinker your bait is the better. Also while fishing these snapper there is a chance for grouper and other snappers as well. Now for trolling this week there has been a fair amount of nice kingfish and plenty of bonito around just on the edge of the reef, trolling with fresh bonito strips daily is the best thing that you can use for consistent action, most of the action has been super early in the mornings and seem to slow down as the afternoon approaches. I would not recommend an afternoon trip right now the weather hasn't been the greatest, lots of rain and thunderstorms. Moving just a little deeper there has been a few blackfin tuna and wahoo but it has been a early morning bite like mentioned earlier. A few mahi mahi have been showing up in the deep and it should only continue to get better as we approach the month of July. This week be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches while out on our deep sea fishing charters. Also remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. We still have some availability for the rest of the month of June and for the first few weeks of July, The fishing is absolutely fantastic so if your looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water...
