Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

There are some monster dolphin biting offshore fishing in Fort Lauderdale. On this trip, we went out very far offshore, further than we normally do. This is a big gamble because when you do this, you get skunked a lot more often than if you fish the reef and wreck. Well, we made the gamble and as it sometimes does, it paid off big time. We caught one of the biggest dolphin of the year, a near 60 pounder. The fish ate a large horse ballyhoo rigged behind a magnum islander lure. As we were fighting the big dolphin, another big dolphin swam up behind the boat and ate the left short bait that we had still out there. After a 40 minute fight on the big dolphin and a 20 minute fight on the other, we had both big dolphin in the box. Like I said, it's a risk to go that far offshore, and most times you won't find anything out there (it's a big desert out there past 20 miles offshore), but every now and then you'll catch the fish of the year doing it. Good luck to all the fishermen willing to risk a skunk to go after the biggest ones. Let's go fishing!
