Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The summer is here and it's a great time to get the kids out on a fishing trip. This time of year we get tons of action on our drift fishing trips. These trips are very affordable, only $45 for adults and only $35 for kids. And it includes everything from rods, bait and tackle to the coolers and ice and fishing license. You just bring your own food and drinks. At Fishing Headquarters over summer vacation on our drift fishing trips, we specialize in fishing with kids.

This month the snappers are biting great on the reef. We're catching lots of yellowtail snappers, mangrove snappers, mutton snappers, porgies, grunts, groupers and jacks. Lots of action on these small to medium sized reef fish to keep the kids busy. And best of all, they are all good eating. When we get back from our trips we clean the fish so you can take them over to the restaurant and get them cooked up. It's always fun to eat the fish you just caught and fish caught taste twice as good as fish bought.

Talk about a lasting memory for your kids. They probably won't remember all the time spent playing iPhone video games but you can bet your butt that they are going to remember going out fishing with their parents and catching some fish that they ate for dinner that same night. That's the stuff I remember about growing up at least.

For the next 3 months, we have some of the best action on the reefs and these are pretty easy fish to catch, so the kids can handle catching them themselves. You might have to help them get the hang of it but I've seen some natural fisher kids come out lately where it was like a duck taking to water. First time with a rod in their hand and they could do no wrong. It's different for every kid but one thing remains universal, kids love fishing.

So grab the kids and make a day of it. We fish 3 trips every day on our big 85ft drift fishing boat, the Catch My Drift. The action is good on all 3 trips. With kids, the mornings are better because it's cooler and they have more energy. But afternoon and night fishing are the best trips for catching the absolute most fish. Tons of snappers are hitting this month and the action should continue through the summer months. Good luck everyone fishing over the next week or two. I'll sea ya on the water,
