Kingfish Action

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
December 23, 2019
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week on the Yb Normal we had a few charters but the weather really hurt us the winds were blowing hard from the east at 20 to 25 mph and we had to cancel a few of the charters we had, but we were able to get out a few days this week and it seemed like the kingfish bite was on. We had a great charter this week with our friend Ives from Canada he is used to fishing the freshwater lakes and rivers in canada and decided to give us a call for some deep sea fishing action. We Left at 8am sharp from the dock and its only 15 min to the Fort Lauderdale sea bouy which is located 1 mile from land and the depth is 120 feet. We started trolling with 2 planners down with seawitches and bonito strips and 4 surface baits consisting of seawitches and small feathers, the weather was overcast with light rain, we would troll from the depths of 80 feet of water out to 400 feet trying to cover as much water as possible. We started off quick with a big planner bite and Ives was the angler and he would battle a very large kingfish weighing in at 22lbs a very nice sized king I was impressed, we would continue to troll in the deep for a little while in search of blackfin tuna, the bite was very good on the tuna due to the overcast weather, the tuna where biting on the small feathers on the surface as well as a larger sized tuna that was caught on the planner. We trolled over a shallow wreck and had a very nice bite where Ives wife would be the angler she battled for 10 min or so and would reel in a trophy sized barracuda around the 60inch mark a great fish and very similar to the muskie which is a freshwater fish.
We would continue to troll the rest of the trip catching bonito and 2 more kingfish plenty of action for a 4 hour charter. We headed back to the marina where I would dock the YB Normal and we would take some great pictures and cut the fish up for dinner. Another great trip in the books and happy customers. This week should be great with good weather and after a front I would expect to see some good fishing this week with some sailfish around too!

If your looking for a deep sea fishing charter don't hesitate to book the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale Florida with a big comfortable boat and a great crew how can you pass it up!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
