Kingfish and Dolphin

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been catching a lot of kingfish and dolphin in the last week on our Fort Lauderdale Charters. Best part about it is all can be caught within a mile and a half of the inlet.
Kingfish have been biting well on live bait in the 90-130ft depth on the reef and have been averageing 15-25lbs. This past sunday we caught 8 to 25lbs in the first 2 hours of fishing, non stop fishing is the best kind of fishing.
Now 8 fish in 2 hours might sound good but we also caught 2 dolphin and 6 bonitas in the same time. Early summer fishing is my favorite kind of fishing.
The dolphin have been spread out on the reef. From 200-90ft. of water we have found dolphin in singles and as many as 6-10 in a school. Best bet has been fishing on east wind days especially when it has had time to blow for a few days out of the east. It slowed a lot last week on the full moon but by this past saturday we had 5.
Also this past weekend on our saturday afternoon trip we caught 2 sails and saw 5 freejumpers. These fish seem to be hanging around so you still have time to catch a Ft. Lauderdale sailfish before the disapear in the late summer.
Blackfin tunas are on the reef and we have been catching at least one every trip. These fish are from 20-35lbs and fight you all the way to the boat. We have been catching them on live bait on the kite and flat lines.
Offshore dolphin fishing has been slow for us but we have only tried twice in the last week. Once we stuck out the other time we caught 2 fish. But the fish coming in on the reef have made up for it. They may have been a little farther then we ran, 15 miles, but its hard to tell yourself to run 20-30miles when you just caught one within 2 miles of the coast.
Swordfishing remains good for the people fishing them. Unfortunately i haven't had any trips in the last 2 weeks. The good fishing should remain through most of the summer with a few dips here and there.
