Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We took the Ladies Let's Go Fishing group out yesterday for a fun filled day of fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Betty rounded up the gals for a trip on our sportfishing charterboat. The girls showed their skills off that they learned during their annual Ladies Let's Go Fishing seminar held annually in April every year here in Fort Lauderdale. Billfish Betty and many of south Florida's fishing elite gather to teach the girls how to rig baits, gaff fish, clean and filet fish, and fish in general. It's a great seminar open only to ladies who have a desire to learn some fishing techniques and enjoy one of south Florida's most fun pastimes.

On yesterday's trip, we spent a lot of the time offshore, looking for the elusive mahi-mahi. We found 1 dolphin offshore and it was a sea monster. We estimated it at over 40 pounds, a true beast. Well, we almost caught it... One of the unfortunate facts of fishing is that you can't land every one. This fish fought like a champ and ultimately shook the hook. He came up on a big jump and thrashed his head from side to side. We almost cried, it was such a nice fish. Well, that's fishing!

After our heartbreaking loss of our big dolphin fish, we spent a little more time offshore with no action and decided to come in on the reefs to troll for kingfish and anything else that would bite. We caught several nice kingfish and a decent size blackfin tuna. The reef always has some good action this time of year. And trolling the reel allows us to cover a lot of ground and get on top of the schools of fish migrating through.

After some action trolling the reef, we decided to finish the day off with some wreck fishing. We went and did some deep dropping over some of our local shipwrecks. The ladies did fabulously. We caught 2 nice amberjacks that we released as well as a nice mutton snapper. All in all, it was a great day of fishing with some wonderful gals who enjoyed fishing. We didn't get the monster bull dolphin that we wanted so bad and that we actually had hooked, but it was still a fun day on the water. Any day you get to spend fishing is a great day.

The Fort Lauderdale reefs have been holding some really nice action on kingfish and tunas this week. The summer months in general are some of our best fishing months of the year for catching numbers of fish. Come on out on a fishing charter with us to get in on the hot bite we're having on our Fort Lauderdale fishing trips. I'll sea ya on the water.
