Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lots of fish biting on our drift fishing trips this week. We're getting into the snapper and groupers really good on our drift boat. Yellowtails, mangroves and muttons are biting the best with a few other snapper species being caught here and there. The yellowtails and mangoves are almost all keeper sized, but the mutttons are unfortunately mostly below the size limit and need to be thrown back. Some groupers are biting good. On our $40 drift boat, we're catching lots of red groupers, strawberries and coneys. The sportfishing boat is catching the big black groupers. Most of them have been keepers, like 80% +. I think our drift fishing trips are catching quite a few more fish per person lately than our sportfishing trips have been.

January 1 marks the end of grouper season. The season closes for 4 months, all the way until May 1, so if you can, get out there and catch them quick. Night fishing have been crushing them too. Lots of yellowtails, mangroves, red groupers and bluefish. Bluefish are coming through in big numbers this week. Who would have figured that? Also sharks are biting at night too, adding some bigger fish into the catch. I would say the night trip has been our best all around trip on our drift boat. A rare cobia is getting caught on our drift fishing trip too. They always hit when you least expect it, so always be ready.

Great action on our drift fishing trips this week. We're extra busy for the holidays, so make sure you don't just show up. Call ahead and put your name on the list so we are expecting you. This week should continue to see some great catches on our drift fishing trips. Good luck to everyone fishing out there this week. I'll sea ya on the water.
