Nice Catches In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
February 19, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, this week in Fort Lauderdale there has been some very good action while deep sea fishing so we are going to start with some trolling... As of late the trolling bite right of the coast of Fort Lauderdale has been somewhat slower then normal but there still has been a few quality fish that are being caught. Early mornings and late afternoons have been best like usual, I would say the main species would be blackfin tuna, there also has been some mahi mahi around due to the heavy wind and big seas we have been having over the last few days. There has been a very nice current edge in about 350 feet of water where green water meets the blue water of the gulfstream. These current edges are just like a highway for pelagic fish, majority of your bites will come on the blue side and could be a number of different species like wahoo, sailfish, tuna, and or mahi mahi. Other then that this week there has been some pretty good bottom fishing for snapper. Vermillion snapper has been the catch this week and good size as well averaging around 2lbs with some as big as 3 and 4lbs. Shallower bottom spots have been producing very well, there has been a very good amount of north current as of late so that makes the deeper spots off limits for now. Last but not least there has been some big game sharks moving through the area, like hammerhead and some bull sharks as well, some of these sharks can be upwards of 8 feet. You have to use heavy tackle in order to land these hard fighting beasts and the best bait is something fresh preferably tuna or bonito due to how bloody those fish are. While fishing for shark may not be everyones cup of tea it definitely can be an exciting experience and if your looking for a fight it will give you a run for your money. Lots of different things biting this week in Fort Lauderdale from top to bottom I would imagine as we approach the month of march we will see the shark fishing improve as well as our spring fishing patterns start to take place. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent caches we have had while out on our deep sea fishing charters, and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. We have some availability this week and next so if your coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. Capt.
