Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

A huge yellowfin tuna was caught today by the crew at Fishing Headquarters. The fish was caught in 150 ft of water, about a mile offshore of Fort Lauderdale. The boat, Keeping it Reel, was kite fishing. The charter was hooked into 2 mahi-mahi dolphin on spinning rods and were fighting them when the tuna hit. They quickly landed the 2 dolphin and began fighting the tuna.
The fish fought for 3 hours in a brutal battle on light tackle. The fish was caught on a Shimano 25 TLD conventional reel strung with 40 pound ANDE monofilament. After 3 hours, the fish was caught and weighed in at 165 pounds. Yellowfin are rarely caught in Fort Lauderdale and one that size is almost unheard of. It's a great sign that there are some big fish moving through our waters. Wahoo fishing has been outstanding all month as well as sailfish, sharks and fish around the wrecks.
