Quality Catches In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
September 23, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt Vinnie here…This weeks report is a good one with some quality catches right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. We will start this week on the inshore report first, early mornings have been the most successful as of late, trolling has been somewhat slow though there has been a good amount of small bonitos around eating almost everything in sight, if your lucky the prize catch right now is wahoo, which have been around and some good size ones too, trolling a bait under the surface is going to be the most effective way to target them right now, seawitches and bonito strips are always a great combo, other then wahoo there has been some sailfish around also, mostly striking surface baits either rigged ballyhoos or strips. Its a great sign to see some sailfish coming around so early in the season. Besides trolling the snapper fishing this week has really picked up. Vermillion snapper and a few yellow eye snapper have been biting very well on some of the deeper bottom fishing spots with structure, a multiple hook rig with at least 2 pieces of cut bait has been working best, we like to use bonito because we have it fresh daily and it stays on the hook better then anything else. Some of the snappers have been as big as 3 to 4lbs. Last but not least on the inshore side there has been some large big game sharks, although protected from harvest catching a large shark is a great way to get experience of something that really fights hard. Moving to the offshore side there has been a good report of mahi offshore about 10 miles out. On the inshore side we have been having dirty green water but out on the offshore side there has been a current edge with seaweed and floating debris and that is where the mahi have been. You need to run out until you find the color change and that is where your going to want to start fishing. I would still recommend an all day trip if your looking to target mahi just because that extra time could be the difference between catching a few fish or filling up the entire cooler, I also still think that live bait is something you want to bring out there with you just incase you get into a school, because that is something they can't resist. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters, also remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. We still have a few weeks left for the month of September and we do have availability if your looking to do some deep sea fishing, so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale please look us up we would love to show you a great time out on the water. More later…
