Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, I have a nice report this week for you guys, so this week in Fort Lauderdale morning trip fishing has been the way to go, the afternoon showers have been very prevalent with lots of thunder and lighting not the best recipe for a good day on the water, other then that the weather has been excellent flat calm waves and light winds. So for the fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale it has been pretty productive lots of action on the reef and just outside the reef. Early in the mornings staying on the reef seems to be the most productive approach, trolling just on the drop off there has been a very good amount of king mackeral biting as well as a few bonitos and large barracuda in the mix, trolling with fresh bonito strips is the key in order to make your bites count, trolling seawitches and bonito strips under the surface of the water using a planer is a great combination that appeals to all types of fish. Another thing that has been pretty productive which just seemed to show up in the last few days is blackfin tuna, June is not a great month for tuna in the Fort Lauderdale area but there has been a good amount of blackfin in depths from 200 to 300 feet, picking up your trolling speed is the key in order to get bites, fishing the same combination as inshore for the kingfish has been working fairly well but something that has been really getting there attention is fishing small squid like lures on the surface but very far away from the boat. Tuna have good eyesight and spook easily, the noise from the motors tends to drive the tuna down below the surface so fishing your lures way back behind the boat will help you to get bites. Other then that bottom fishing for mutton snappers has been very good lately, fishing live baits like pilchards on long leaders is a good way to get a wary mutton snappers attention, fishing structure in depth up tp 150 feet is where most of these snappers have been, mutton snapper is great on the dinner table and they fight hard just an overall great gamefish. Last but not least way offshore there has been a few mahi mahi but it has been inconsistent with the size of the fish, most fish have been on the smaller side which is a bummer but I think there are some bigger ones on the way soon I will keep you guys updated as soon as I hear or see that the fish are here, mahi fishing is one of my favorite type of fishing to do here in the Fort Lauderdale area so I definitely can't wait till they show up in numbers. This week please be sure to check out our great photos of some of our recent catches aboard our deep sea fishing charters right here in Fort Lauderdale, also remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content.
