Red Hot Sailfishing

Capt. Ryan McBride
January 3, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sailfishing remains the most consistent fishery here in off Fort Lauderdale. Our charters have been averaging 5 fish per half day over the past 3 weeks. This is great fishing and has included 3 double digit full days. If you would like a shot at sailfish this is a great time to give it a shot.
We are starting to get started with kingfishing. Not a lot of big kings are around but just to the north there are good sized pods of big fish feeding on spanish macks and bluefish...its only a matter of time before the bigger fish make there way to the Fort Lauderdale area.
On the reef we have been catching a few dolphin. They haven't been that consistent but are still catching around 1 fish per half day.
Before the new year we were targeting the gag grouper on the wrecks and were getting several bites per trip. Unfortunately the FWC decided to close the fishery off some messed up science so we can't keep them anymore and aren't worth the effort. There are a few snapper still around if you are looking for a tasty treat.
The cobias are on a few of the wrecks and are going to become more and more plentiful over the next few month. While the best fishing for these fish are to the north of ft. lauderdale we can still pull our share of fish off the local wrecks.
Offshore the swordfishing has been holding strong on the days that you can get out there. We have been catching 1-2 fish per night when we can get out. This is one of my favorite times to fish the night if the weather allow. Lots of bait offshore leads to the possibility of lots of fish if you pick the right night.
Give me a call if you want to go fishing.
