Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tinker mackeral Vs. King Mackeral
Updated report for 1-31-03
What an awsome morning bite. Today Jim and Melissa White came down from Texas on a business trip and decided to do some offshore fishing. As we left the dock, we picked up some bait from ol' reliable, Rays Live Bait, thanks Ray for the good deal. We bought a dozen Tinker mackeral and a dozen Pilchards and set out due north to soak these baits. Winds were coming out of the northwest so we set up on the shallow side and the winds pulled us out slowly. For the next 2 hours or so we had consistant bites on the kite bait and the flat lines. Our biggest was caught off the flatline on a Tinker. He literally peeled off close to 300 yards of line. I thought for sure it was a Wahoo since Kings normally run for shorter bursts of speed than the wahoo does. But all morning the runs were just the same, like a freight train. We ended up keeping 4 Kingfish and releasing the rest. That was all we saw today, no Sails or Dolphin. Our score at the end of the day, Fish:6, Jim and Melissa:5. The fish always win.
Till next tide,
Captain Cary hanna
