Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
March 20, 2003
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

It just gets better

Sping breakers are ready to fish. This week of the 17th I'm fishing almost everyday and fortunately we are finding the fish. Today, Thursday we came out to the same weather pattern, south winds blowing a little stronger at about 10 knots. I haven't seen a Sailfish all week until today. He hit the light line close to the boat first, made it bend over but no drag came out, so we picked up the rod and started pulling and he came off. In 10 seconds he picked up the next closest line with another Pilchard on it and this time he was jumping all the way out past 200 yards then back to the boat. I love it when they hit the right rod, this rod was a TLD 20 spooled with 20 pound and 50 pound leader tied on to wire. The rest of the day we found some nice Kingfish up to 15 pounds. The majority of the action has been inside 80 feet unless you want a nice long tail thresher shark, those bites are coming much deeper at around 350 feet. I'm still waiting for the Blackfin Tuna bite to come. Its just a matter of days, you just gotta be out there when it does. Just a small message for all boaters; Getting out on the water is awsome and tranquil, but we still have to pay attention to what goes on. It could be a fishing kite in the sky or someone fighting a Sailfish whos jumping 3-400 feet from their boat, or there could be marine life thats floating around. The point is that boaters need to be cognizant of there souroundings. Today I heard of a huge turtle that got ran over by a sportfishing vessel and it wasn't a pretty sight. Till next Tide, Captain Cary Hanna
