Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tuna Time
They finally reached us. I have been waiting for the Blackfin Tuna bite to show up all month and they are finally hanging around. Early mornings or early evening trips are the best times, these guys are sensitive, to light that is. When a Blackfin hits your line, it will actually scare you because they hit so hard. We were relaxing with all the lines out and everything was quiet for about 20 minutes or so and then one of rods with a goggle eye bait bent over with line peeling off the drag so hard it startled all of us. The fish would dive and then surface in a circle pattern over and over agian and 20 minutes later we finally got to see our fish weighing in at the average 30 pounds. Great catch Frank! The rest of the morning was filled in with schoolie Kingfish up to 10 pounds. The best action has been happening before 9:30 am. Dolphin are more consistent lately, mostly schoolie size, but that will increase as the next month or so passes by as they head north for the hot summer. Sounds like some neighbors I know that are ready to head back north for the summer. Swordfishing is incredible and for the most part so is the weather. We are rigged and ready! Saltwater Sportsman has named south Florida as the # 1 spot to catch Swordfish for almost a year now so come on aboard and lets bend a rod.
