Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Swordfishing
We fished the Broadbills for 3 nights in a row ending Tuesday night passed. I had the priveledge this time of fishing on clients boats instead of mine. Sunday night I was on a 28 foot Proline walkaround that handled pretty well and had some good power, a pair of 225 Mercury's. We had 1 bite for the evening that got our temps rising but we pulled the hooks. He hit a larger than usual squid and peeled a 100 yards of line before I got tight on him. Just as I was getting tight I saw the glow stick surfacing. He came up to quick and we lost him.
On Monday night it was very difficult fishing, we had southeast winds at 15 knots pushing us thrue the stream at just over 5 knots with seas 3-5 feet. This boat was a 36 foot Orca, sportfishing boat with all the electronics you could ask for. Radar, Sonar, Auto pilot, and much more. It's nice to be able to just relax and watch the radar for cruising cargo ships that are passing thrue and of course other sword boats. Tuesday night on the same boat we finally had it right, the winds laid down less than 10 knots se and the current was less than 4 knots. We bagged a nice Swordfish, 56 inches in length on a squid in the 1,100 foot depths. I'm just getting back to my regular day schedule and I'm ready to go back out and do it again.
Till next Tide,
Captain Cary Hanna
