Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
December 16, 2003
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's not summertime, that's for sure. The weather patterns of winter are here which means some days you can fish and other days you can't unless you have your sea legs that is. Our evening Swordfishing has been effected by the weather, but when we get an open window you can bet we are fishing them. We have a new 15 ft. sea anchor from Para-tech that keeps us in the fish zone up to 5 times longer than if you weren't fishing with one. This anchor also helps on the reef for kite fishing, we have had up to 6 fish within a 2 hour time period. Staying in the zone is the whole trick.

A lot of Dolphin have been showing up in the 5 to 25 pound class on the easterly winds. They can be anywhere from 80 feet past 350 feet deep. Kingfish have been biting pretty well also in the 8 to 15 pound class on the average. If you like bottom fishing the Mutton snapper are coming in closer to the reef and can be caught on live Ballyhoo. We would have to spend some time chumming for bait which is always a great time.

Sad to say, but the New Lattitude, my 27 foot Robalo is going up for sale. I have learned so much on this boat and I'm going to miss her. I have made this boat my own, customizing it and keeping her in top condition. She has a 9 foot beam, 50 gallon above deck livewell, and full color Raymarine electronics with the new DSM250. When we go Swordfishing I can read the bottom contour well past 2000 feet down and can also read the thermoclines very clearly. She has a Pioneer stereo system with 4 speakers, VHF, and Raymarines GPS. I'm asking $40,000.00 including the trailer, call for details 954-907-0967.

The new boat will be hear in just a few weeks and I'm ready to break her in. I feel the need to step up to a bigger boat, so I am going to try out the 2004 Donzi 32 ZF. She looks and handles amazingly. We should have this boat by January 1st of the new year.

Gift certificates are available for the holidays or any occasion, just give me a call to set it up. I look foward to hearing from you all.

Lets catch a Sword!
