Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
September 24, 2004
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tournaments and fishing postposted

I can't believe we have another hurricane knocking on our door. As I type this report (Friday night) we are in the hurricane warning phase and by tomorrow 6:00pm it should be on our door steps. We are hoping and praying for the best. Tomorrow night was supposed to be the Dark Side of the Moon Swordfishing tournament, but with 20 foot + swells in the gulf stream I don't think so. The tournament will be postponed until October 23rd next month.

This weather has basically put a stop to our fishing. I haven't been out in almost 3 and a half weeks and haven't heard of any reports from the charter crews. Seas have been pretty consistant at 4-6 feet+. After this storm passes I am sure we will be back to the job I love the best. The moon will still be good for the next week so hopefully we will get a few shots at the Swordfish. Then on the reef we should be seeing some nice changes as towards what new has swam into our waters. A friend of mine was out last week in the rough waters and caught a 52 pound Kingfish and even found the Dolphin very close to shore. The Mullet run has already started from the north and are swimming along the beaches so thick you can walk on them. Tarpon, Snook, Jack Crevalle and even Sharks are feasting on these guys.

With all this extra time on my hands I was able to install a few more rod holders on the boat and also applied some new graphics to the hull. I have also done some minor repairs and maintenance on the rods and reels, fixed some clickers, greased bearings, and made some leaders for the upcoming Swordfish trips. I know I'll be ready, how about you? Let's go fishing! Gift certificates are available for the upcoming Holiday seasons. They make great gifts!

Till next power surge,

Captain Cary Hanna
