Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Here They Come
The fishing season is hear and so are our fish. Last weekend there was the Ft. Lauderdale Billfish Tournament. Alot of Sailfish were raised compared to last year. Most of the fish we are catching is Sailfish and Dolphin. Compared to the summer Kingfish and Bonito. While fishing for Mako Sharks, my friend Kurt had put out a bait intended for a shark when a huge Dolphin over 5 foot long, 50 pounds or more, came in his spread and ate one of his baits. It took off and spit the hook, probably because he was using size 14/0 intended for the Mako. But it's nice to know there running out there.
There are Kingfish still biting as always but we are looking foward to the smoker size above 40 pounds to start showing up. As the season moves foward we will see them. Last years winter season our best Kingfish went 48 pounds.
Last week as the moon was approaching the full we had the best Swordfish bite ever. We had a few nights where we were getting 4-8 bites per night. Your game has to be right on so that you can weed through the smaller ones to get to the big ones. It seems about every 4th fish to the boat is 120 pounds or over. 3 ot of every 4 are a 100 pounds and under. Last week the "Stihl Leader" boated one at 170 pounds.
Season is here and so are our visiting tourists. Be sure to book your fishing excersions in as much advance as possible. See you on the rip!
