Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hero or Zero

You never know what kind of day your going to have unless you get out on the water and wet some bait. Our fishing days the past week have been off and on. Last Saturday we fished 6 hard hours trying everything and couldn't come up with a good fish. We made it out Swordfishing Sunday night with Tom Schaub from Long Island to get him on his first Broadbaill Swordfish. On our first line out we must have dropped it on his head because emmediately the line started peeling off the reel. I got the hook set on him and he made another blistering run almost emptying the spool. We had to put the drag in full to try and slow him down. Futunately we stopped him and were able to get some cranks back on the spool. Within 10 minutes the hook had came unbuttuned. That was our only fish of the night.

I took out Major Davis and crew taking a break from duty on the Navy ships that have been in port. We fished in 4-6 footers all day trolling balllyhoo and looking for the Dolphin. We managed to find a few here and there but no big numbers.

Tom Schaub came aboard again later in the week looking for another Billfish. We searched high and low and found a big Kingfish in 160 feet of water and then we did some wreck fishing. That was the best part of the day as we were breaking off hooks to Sharks as we dropped baits down to the structure. Our rods were bent over so hard I thought they were going to split.

Ben from Boston fished on the 9th and had a pretty awsome day. It was a bit sporty out there, 3-5 foot chop all day with a 3 knot north current. We found more Kingfish skyrocketing our kite baits and missed a nice Wahoo bite down deep in 400 feet. We finally found the Sailfish out deep when we spotted him on the long kite bait. Ben did an awsome job gettting this Sail to the boat within 20 minutes. He weighed around 70 pounds. We took a few pictures and released him back home.

Every day is different out there, lets hope your day is a great one. Check out the pics from these trips on my website below.

Till Next Tide,

Captain Cary Hanna
