Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Swords, Sails, Wahoo and did I say Swords
Being out everyday does have it's advantages and disadvantages. On the good side I got to see some nice fish come aboard. Starting from last Wednesday the 19th, Micah Mcombs from Missouri finally went Swordfishing after 2 prior days of fishing on the reef. He caught some big sharks on the reef, one Bull shark over 200 pounds and a 5 foot Hammerhead. Then we went Swordfishing and bagged a 120 pound fish that fought for about an hour. Micah fought this fish real good set up in the harness with the rod doubled over every minute of the fight.
Next up was Brian Saucier who came across the state from the sugar mills on the west coast and wanted to get a look at a Swordfish. We set up our spread and we got 3 fish in the boat by 8:00 pm. The men kept all their fish and decided to get back to the docks early to get these fish cleaned up for the table.
Next up was the Richard Brewer and his wife Cindy and her father. This crew booked the boat for 5 days. They truly wore me out. On Friday night we went Swordfishing and went 1 for 4, putting a nice 90 lb. fish in the boat. next morning I get a call from Rich and he says they want to go again and put Cindy's father on one but they also want to try and catch a Sailfish beforehand. So we set out about 1pm and drifted some Goggle Eyes. At about 4:00 pm the rod with the Gog on it starts screaming harder than I have heard in a very long time. It was like a Kingfish but much longer and faster. This fish did about 10 runs like this making a 360 degree run around the boat. Finally the fish comes close to the boat and I grabbed it with the gaff. The biggest Wahoo ever on my boat about 70 pounds. Then we proceeded out to the Sword grounds and again we went 1 -4 putting Cindy's dad on a nice 100 pound fish.
We took a break from the Swordfishing and went Sailfishing all day on Monday. We raised 3 Sailfish and Cindy got to take a few pictures of hers. Tuesday night was another night out for the Brewers who wanted more Swordfish. This was another great night. We went 2-4 on Swords. Altogether we put 8 Swords in the boat in 5 trips.
We had a great week. I had a couple of days rest and I have 3 more nights booked through the weekend. Hope the bite keeps up for you all. Check out the pics in the gallery at www.newlattitude.com
Till Next Tide,
Captain Cary Hanna
