Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
July 21, 2005
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tuna's abound

In the past week there has been a high pressure weather system that has made our winds kick up a little, enough to get the kites up. A little wind is all we needed to get the bite going. Blackfin Tuna have been in the mix along with plenty of rod bender Bonito's.

The Kingfishing has been slow this week but the Sailfishing has definately picked up. We caught a big one on Tuesday off the kite bait and quite a few of the fleet caught them as well. Some big Hammerhead sharks have come to the spread. We winded up fighting one about 400 pounds that also came up on a kite bait.

Swordfishing has been hit or miss the past month. We went out one night and witnessed flash lightning at it's best. It was like someone taking your picture with the flash on right in front of your face. You had to close your eyes as it flashed. Lots of rain and lightning made for a non productive night, but we stuck it out in hopes for the bite. Tuesday night the 19th was a bit more productive as Jorge and his friends came aboard with a couple of their own rod and reels. Jorge had the new sweet Avet 50 wide which got hit as the tip rod but only managed a fish which had to be released. A bit later on and the 80 wide goes off on a nice long run. We got tight very quickly and had a nice fish bending this rod. As some manouvers were going on SOMEONE hit the drag lever down and caused a bad backlash. As I corrected it we got tight again and quickly the line parted and we lost this fish.

The Swordlords tournament is August 13th, 2005 out of 1st Performance Marina. I'm looking forward to this one.

Till Next Tide,

Captain Cary Hanna
