Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
December 3, 2005
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has turned around this past week and we are catching much more quality fish than we were last month. November had us catching not much else but Sharks and small Kingfish with the occasional Sailfish. But as of earlier this week starting with the strong and cold NW blow on Monday we started finding the Sailfish tailing their way south. They could be spotted on the surface, and a quick reaction by the angler tossing a live bait his way can get you hooked up instantly.

The Kingfish have been a step up in size with a few going 30 pounds. They have been killing everything anywhere in the water column. We were bottom fishing and getting cut off almost every time we deployed baits.

Most of our Sails were eating smaller baits like Pilchards and bullet Bonito's. The Mackerals are very thick also. As we were catching baits with jigs we kept loosing them to toothy fish.

The Swordfish run will be on again. We will be starting off with the Winter Swordfish slam tournament this coming Saturday night. Then we have every night booked after that until the full moon. My favorite 3 months to fish are December, January, and February. The weather plays a factor for most but don't let that stop you if you have an iron stomach. Last month we fished a small craft advisory with winds NE at 20 knots and caught 2 Swordfish, one going 250 pounds. Some of the best memories I have are the ones when it's a bit rough. I have gift certificates for those who want to get someone special a fishing trip they will never forget.

Keep it bent,

Captain Cary Hanna
