Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Big fish on the big seas!
The last week has been one heck of a week on the water! The winds would not stop blowing at 20-30 knots everyday. We still managed fishing with our iron stomach clients and did fairly well. The worst day was Friday the 20th when Daryl dawkins booked a Sword trip. The seas were 5-8 so we slowly made our way out. it took us almost 2 hours to get on our spot and I set up the spread. We managed 1 very aggressive shark bite that was very intense and he cut us off. Less than 2 hours into our drift we called it a night as 10 foot steamers were crashing the boat and soaking us from had to toe.
A couple nights earlier I took out Kevin Kwak and his girlfriend Swordfishing and I baited a butterflied Bonito. The rig got slammed and the fish was heading for the ocean floor. We managed to stop him with the drag in full around 40 pounds or so with more than half the line gone on the Tiagra 80's. Kevin did an awsome job lifting the fish and within 1 hour we had the largest Hammerhead I have ever seen going over 500 pounds. I had him leadered 6 times to the boat and finally was able to hold him so Kevins girlfriend could get some video. We were disappointed but great fish none the less.
Finally I got the brake much deserved this past Tuesday night as the winds layed all the way down and seas were flat calm. Bait was very hard and we winded up catching small Runners at the pier. We headed out with squids and a few Runners and set up our spread. Withing 20 minutes we had Tinker mackeral all over the boat so we started catching them by the dozens. I replaced the Runners with Tinkers and we got our first bite. He hit the tip rod and we baoted a 54 inch Sword withing 10 minutes. We had another bite 5 minutes into our first fish and it changed color on us turning into a Night shark. Within the next hour we had our next fish on which was a textbook kind of battle. The fish ate a deeep bait and just kept swimming away as teh balloon started moving to the front of the boat. We put the drag into strike and waited for the rod to bend. Sure enough the rod tip had some pressure on it so we locked down on him and Tim Nikki got in the harness. Tim and his buddy Bob went back and forth with this fish for over an hour as this fish just hung with the rod tip in the water. I was on him also as the guys would switch harnesses and it was nice to feel the weight of this fish as he would dump 100 yards at a time with 20 pounds of drag on him. We finally got to the leader and I pulled him in and sunk the gaff into the hard head area. We all brought him in the back door and stared at a nice 200 pound Sword. Great catch Tim and Bob. We thought we had the biggest fish that night but A friend of mine Sylvio came to the docks with a 300 pound great looking fish.
Closer to shore the fishing was still challenging as we were greeted with 5-7 footers coming out of the inlet. The action consisted of a decent Kingfish bite, a few Sailfish in the spread, and Sharks are around too. Come and book a trip and lets see if we can put you on a big one.
See you on the rip,
