Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
August 28, 2007
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

A Good Change!

We have finally seen a change in the normal pattern of summer fishing. I took out Jason Haverland and his crew on the 24th and we had a hot bite all morning. Every bait we put in the water was attacked by either Bonito or Kingfish. We did manage a nice Kingfish in the boat about 25 pounds. All the other fish were between 10-20 pounds. This pattern should stay awhile but still remains a morning bite. After 10-11:00am the bite slows way down. We put a huge Bonito filet on the bottom to try our chances on a Shark but never got the bite surprisingly. Some days we get the Shark bite but not always this time of summer.

On the Swordfish bite things are getting much better as well. Brandin Bludan and his dad and sister came aboard for their first offshore fishing trip ever. As I'm setting out the spread, I'm telling them about all the scenarios that could happen while Swordfishing. How they come to the surface with the bait without taking any line off the reel, or just tear line off faster than a frieght train. I put the entire spread out and we waited. Sure enough within 15 minutes the long bait rod's clicker starts rippin and we have a fish on. Brandin did an awsome job and whipped him within 20 minutes. We boated this fish approximately 120 pounds. The fish wasn't even hooked. The line went through his mouth, around his head, and the hook had grabbed the line and synched down tight gagging the Swordfish. Nonetheless we got him. I'll be out two times this weekend weather permitting and looking foward to a hot bite.

See ya on the rip,

Captain Cary Hanna
