Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Roydhouse
March 2, 2001
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sorry it took so long to finally update my report. The main reason is that I've been so busy fishing and secondly most of the action I've been looking for has been ouside the inlet.

With the conditions we've had most of this winter I've spent most days chasing the big ones in the deep. A few times when the winds blew I did get pinned in the harbor though. The usual Jacks and Barracudas have made the reels sing that favorite tune. There is lots of mullet hanging in special places and there you'll find the morning feed going on when the Jacks want breakfast. The Tarpon action has been weak for me. At times Iv'e seen loads of fish rolling around and marked lots of them on sonar but the usual lockjaw has been the tune. I guess they are feeding during the night and thats when I am sleeping. We had a few jump on the baits but not when I set up for them. With the bait (pilchards) missing from the harbor this winter the Spanish Mackerel and ingfish action on the inside has remained weak. They might show on the return north in the next few weeks but no show again this year. The bottom fishing in the inlet with live shrimp has stayed strong. A bite a bait. Lots of suprises too.

Sea Ya,

Captain Ron
