Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

I've noticed alot more baitfish in the local inshore waters this year then in the recent past. The mullet schools are bunched up in the canals and getting exploded on regularly. The jacks, barracuda's, tarpon and snook are busting into the pack and putting on a show for the lucky ones that are around to see it.
While bait fishing in the harbor last week I caught a Kingfish and a Blackfin Tuna on my Sabiki rig, both about 4 inches long. Definately a surprise for me, in the harbor, in August! I've marked lots of small bait fish schools in the port during the last few weeks, I know most are made up of small threadfin herring, blue runners and sardines but who knows what you'll find with them.
Most of my fishing is being done outside the inlet this time of year, a few very scattered Dolphin, all the Bonita's your arms can handle and an occasional Kingish or two that beats the Bonita to the bait.
If all the bait that is around this time of year is any sign of the action that we are going to have this fall it should be a great one.
Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
