Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Here we are into January and still fshing in shorts and shirts most days. I guess thats why I live here. We have had a very mild winter so far. What this means to the angler is "who's in town today?". All the fish we wait for to migrate through our waters this time of year have been late and very inconsistent. Great acton a few days then stugling to get a bite the next.

Th inshore scene has a few Jacks chasing what mullet that is left haning out in the canals. The Tarpon are very scattered and since the temps are so mild the warm water area is a bit slow. Offshore the Sailfish are making a good showing every few days when they can be rounded up. We found them late in the trip yesterday and quickly caught and released 2 in an hour. Kingfish are still on the slow side and the light tackle action is great when you can get live shrimp for bait.

Since we are still having nice weather I know that the fish will continue to trickle south. That means we have the chance of running into a blitz any day out there.

Sea Ya,

Captain Ron Mallet
