Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale Fishing for the beginning of May
The fishing here in Fort Lauderdale has been nothing less than great the first two weeks of May. You name it they've been biting. Bonitas, plenty of them. Kings, getting tired of catching them. Dolphin, hit or miss but when you hit its good. Sailfish, put your time in you'll get your shots. Blackfin tuna, on the scene but scale down the terminal tackle to get the bite (30 or 40 # flouro). Sharks, oh yeah, hammerheads continue to dominate the scene. We have been blessed with a couple of mild cold fronts that have got the fish more frisky than usual. The dolphin have been in shallow regardless of the water color 200-500 feet has been the zone especially on the livies out of the kite. These fish are pushing hard to the south so have chunks and pilchards ready and keep moving south with the fish. They are not going to hang around the boat like offshore in summer. If you lose the school pick up and run south in the same depth and start chunking and chumming and you should see them again. Many times you will see birds working hard and you know the fish are there but they ignore your trolled baits, again get south and start chunking and you should get a bite . Once one eats the rest should turn on.
