Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale Fishing

Summertime sailfish is something you don't normally here about off of south Florida. Normally you hear about fishing the coldfronts either pulling live bally hoos or kite fishing with the gogs. However those same fish while migrating south in the Winter return to where they came from in the Summer following bait and water temp to their liking. However the summertime brings the heat to the surface temp and drives the fish a little deeper in the water column. Often the sails hit on our planers fishing for kings and then follow the baits to the surface once tripped into the regular spread. The sailfish in the winter time tuck tight to the coast trying to buck the north current stacking them up for anglers to enjoy. In the summer its the opposite in Summer their catching a ride on the north current and moving fast. You'll often find them in deeper water say 200-700 feet. It is not uncommon to get a couple shots on the troll but switch to the livies and fish the deeper water and you will find them. Also put some mid water baits down say 20 to 50 feet into the cooler water. Make sure you fish a wire trace because of the wahoos that have been around.
