Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Though the winds have continued to blow over the last two weeks, the fishing continues to be hot aboard the Conched Out. We have been running several half day trips over the last week.
Monday 5/21 an afternoon trip resulted in on sailfish, blackfin tuna, dolphin, kingfish. We also lost more kingfish than we could count due to using mono leaders for targeting the blackfin tuna. All of the fish were caught off the kite except for the blackfin that responded to the live chummed pilchards.
Friday 5/25 an afternoon half day again resulted in two blackfin tunas and a sailfish. The small peanut dolphin became a nuisance and decided to kill a lot of our baits though not get hooked. Several bigger dolphin were spotted though didn’t seem to be hungry. This can happed as we get closer to the full moon which is coming up in a week.
Saturday 5/26 we fished early in the day before our guests wanted to return and caught 2 sailfish, cudas and kingfish. We fished from 100-180ft. and the fish were caught using goggle eyes on both flatlines and kites.
There are several tournaments coming up over the next couple of weeks and we will be fishing more days to get dialed in to the fish. Hopefully the up coming full moon will bring in some of the non existent wahoo and bait. If this wind blows in some more pilchards we will also start to target more tunas. Usually the pilchards have been solid for almost a month by this point of the year but they have failed to show up thick this year. If we spend a little bit more time in the mornings on locating the scattered pilchard schools on our trips the tunas have responded well to the live chum. I have had reports of up to six blackfins in just a few hour trip while live chumming. The goggle eyes are still the best option for the kite and have been somewhat easy to catch if you can get out at night. Over the next week we will start running a few charters up to the north out of Jupiter and get dialed in on the kingfish bite that has been hot up in that area.
