Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Report for the week of 6/4 to 6/10

After a tough couple of weeks preparing for this past weekend it all started on Friday. On friday we were fishing in the sweet sixteen round of the guantlet fishing tournament. The fishing was on fire, tunas finally showed up in huge numbers, as well as the dolphin, though the kingfish were really scattered and small. We ended up with probably 10 kingfish getting our 4 weigher kings, 2 dolphin, and 3 tunas. 177lbs. aggregate and won the daily for the day. On saturday was the elite eight and Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam. We had a good morning though it was a lot tougher having a 119 boat field verses a 16 boat field. We ended up with 2 kingfish, 2 dolphin, and a tuna with a 81 lbs. agregate. We ended up in 11th place and definitely had our shot at winning, but you can't win them all. Our good fishing buddies Makin Time, though getting knocked out of the guantlet on friday, won the Slam on Saturday with a 122 lb. aggregate. It was good to see your buddies win. All of our fish were caught on goggle eyes on the kite, except for a tuna on the deep rod and kingfish on the flat on friday. Other boats had the exact opposite with all of their fish on the flat lines, so fish them however you do it best.

This week the dolphin and tuna should still be hot, a boca area boat was really catching the tunas well even with the tournament on the live chum so hopefully the great fishing will continue. Also a local charter boat caught a 81lb. dolphin on Saturday, a possible new 30lb. tackle record. This is a huge dolphin, and there are have been other report of big fish from 40lbs. and up, so it looks like the dolphin are finally making their big show only a month late.
