Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hot & Cold

February has been the usual hot & cold. One day is good and the next day you can't find a bite.

On February 11th we had an All day charter. The wind was North at 10 kts and we heard the sailfish bite was good off of the Miami Sea Bout.

When we set up in 120', the water was blue and we had a North current and our hopes were high. We put the kite up with goggle eyes and tinker mackeral out for bait.

It wasn't long and we had the first sail on. Within the next four hours we were four for 5 and Sean & Katie Olhan along with Brad Groves had their first Sails.

On the 13th we fished the wrecks with Mark Welp and caught Amberjacks up to 40 lbs. The next day the wind was SE at 15 and we only caught a couple of Dolphin.

On the 15th fishing was slow and with the wind SE at 15 knots we found some clean water in 350 ft off Dania. We put the kites out and caught a Sailfish for Rich Grejoio and a couple of Dolphin.

Fishing was really tough on the 16th and we went to the sewer outlet off Hoolywood and managed to catch a couple kingfish and two Bluefish.

On Feb 18th we fished the wrecks and caught 4 Amberjacks up to 80 lbs.

The past 3 days we have been catching and releasing an Amberjack a trip and an occasional Dolphin.

We did manage a Sailfish on Friday the 22nd and another Dolphin on Sunday.

Today we caught one Dolphin of 30 lbs and heard of a couple other in the 40 lb range getting caught by other boats. Most of the Dolphin are being found chasing bait. Not too much on the Kingfish and a few Makos were seen along with some Hammerheads tailing to the South.

Fishing has been tough, but it could be worse. I could be in an office!

Catch-em-up,

Capt. Kunta
