Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dolphin & Sharks!

After a well deserved vacation, I'm back fishing. Some people think that this job is a vacation.

The weather has been great this week. Calm seas and decent fishing. The current has been running to the North for over a week.

Last Friday we went Shark fishing. We had live Blue Runners in the Kite and a dead 8 lb. Kingfish on the bottom in 300' of water. After 1 hour the deep bait was screaming off line. We fought the fish for close to an hour and whne we got the shark close enoough to identify, we saw a 225 lb Thresher Shark. What a great fish. Over the radio that same day we heard of another Thresher caught of 400 lbs. and another one of 150 lbs being caught. Another Charter boat caught a 250 lb Mako too.

On Tuesday the bite was on trolling in 120' to 300' of water. We started off with a double header of Skipjack Tunas, about 15 lbs each. These fish can really fight on 20 lb. line. We put the baits back out and the downrigger went off. After a real fast long run we had a 15 lb. Wahoo in the boat. In the next two hours we caught a Baracuda, two more Skipjack Tunas and a gaffer Dolphin. On the way in we dropped a live bait down 240' over a wreck and caught and released a 40 lb. Amberjack. Not bad for a half day fishing.

Yesterday we fished all day. It was tough! Cudas, Bonitas and Kingfish. Other boats Shark fished all day and no bites. Some boats headed offshore and found a couple of Skipjack Tunas and no Dolphin.

Just one of those days.

There has been a few Sails being caught and some Yellowtail snappers on the reef. The Dolphin have been nice size when we find them. Quite a few Wahoos are still being caught and Plenty of Amberjacks on the wrecks.

Catch-em-up,

Capt. Kunta
